NENIWO/LAMIFUTHI has identified school fees, books and uniforms as the most critical education costs for the orphans in Zimbabwe. Therefore we focus on raising (structural) funds to pay for these costs when the family of the orphan is not capable of doing so.

What we offer the child
Once you have paid fees for your child, a NENIWO/LAMIFUTHI officer will visit the host family and introduce you to the family as an active sponsor. The child will receive a clear explanation of the system and who you are according to the child’s level of understanding. From that point on the child will receive personal attention at least three times a year at school when the school reports are ready. If you wish to establish personal contact with the child, this can go on once the host family understands that they remain responsible for the up bringing of the child and all the other basic needs. You will provide fees and money for school levies and exercise books for the period of your commitment. The cost of school uniforms is subject to economic fluctuations and is difficult to project. Sometimes uniforms even cost more than the fees. Any other gifts are the private business of the sponsor and are not at all expected by the organization. It will be made clear to the host family that the making of further requests from you is strictly prohibited unless this is by mutual agreement between the two parties. NENIWO/LAMIFUTHI will not attempt to control or interfere in any direct communication between the adopting parent and the child besides in the handling of the fees and the school reports.

Projections
NENIWO/LAMIFUTHI has 36 children in school since August 2004. We surpassed our target of 30 children in school by the end of 2005. The number will be kept at a maximum of 50 as a pilot project. Once all the systems that have been put into place have been tested, the programme will be allowed to grow according to the number of people who commit themselves to sending children to school. 1000 Children will be the maximum number of children manageable by one organisation.
Help us educate Zimbabwean children. One child in 20,000 may seem like only a drop in the ocean. But don't forget, the ocean is a culmination of millions of tiny drops pooled together. And making a difference in one person's life is no small matter to the person involved.
